In order to move forward with the preparation of the Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) and Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) Zoning of San Gabriel La Union, the WILUP Team held a consultation workshop on September 11, 2023 at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall located in the Municipal Hall of San Gabriel. The Barangay Chairpersons and representatives of the Environment Committee or Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Head, Secretary, and President of the Association of Barangay Captains were invited to the said activity.
Dr. Yusuf Sucol, the CDRA expert of WILUP, provided a lecture on the CDRA process, including Steps 1 to 5. The participants were able to review and confirm the data and information gathered on the climatic patterns and potential hazards in San Gabriel. After obtaining information about hazards in the LGU, participants were grouped according to the number of existing hazards in the municipality. With this, an Impact Chain Analysis was then formulated. Participants identified environmental, economic, social, institutional, and disaster risk and infrastructure factors that may impact the municipality and the local residents.
In the next activity, For. Jan Joseph Dida, the CLUP expert of WILUP, presented the results from the previous target setting in the municipality. With the help of the participants, he validated the existing and proposed programs, projects, and activities (PPAs). He then discussed the process and other data needs from the municipality that are necessary to prepare San Gabriel’s land use zoning map. The land use zoning of the municipality will then be a basis for the drafting of the CLUP of San Gabriel.
Moving forward, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer was assigned to assist in collecting and filling out other missing data for the CDRA plan. In addition, it was agreed upon that the LGU will request datasets of the San Gabriel boundary from the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office or Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 1.
